This week students selected photos of their own or other gardens...  After looking at Monet's garden paintings, we did an exercise of painting brush strokes with intense color on background washes. Then the class went on to try their own hand at painting gardens.

PAINTING FLOWERS, SOFT COLORS AND SOFT EDGES, July 14, 2016

In this class, students practiced making soft colors and soft edges.  They then went on to paint flowers using what they had practiced.

HOMEWORK from July 7, 2016

Ashok was inspired to do two more paintings from photos of pine trees by a lake.  He used a dry brush technique to create interesting textures.

INSPIRED BY ASIAN BRUSH PAINTING, July 7, 2016

In this first class, students followed the teacher in an exercise of painting a pine branch in the style of Asian brush painting.  They went on to paint pine trees from black and white photos. These paintings show a variety of textures and tones, very successful for a first class
