For the first class, students painted leaves and added haiku.  Since it was a first class, materials were limited, and the colors were mostly limited to black and white.

PAINTING A WATERFALL

This week students painted a waterfall.  I did a demonstration based on "How to Paint a Waterfall by Tom Jones" on Youtube.  I used black paint, and a spray bottle to make the mist at the bottom.  The students painted theirs with color.  One student, Linda, did a painting  in black and gray, and when it was dry, she tinted it with color.

STILL LIFE WITH SECONDARY COLOR SCHEME
This week students painted a still life with a color scheme of purple, green and orange.  They focused on painting the water in the vase, and how the stems of the flowers contorted and magnified.

Watercolor class June-July 2013

SUNFLOWERS
This was the first assignment of our class. The subjects were a fresh sunflower, a dead sunflower, and a sunflower leaf.  The beginning students did one painting of each object, using a different tool each time:  a pen, a small watercolor brush, and a bamboo brush.  The advanced students also used three tools, but put the objects together in one painting.  Very good work for the first class meeting.

STILL LIFE WITH PRIMARY COLORS
For the second class, students used a color scheme of primary colors.  First they lightly toned the paper with yellow, blue and red.  Then they drew the objects with a brush loaded with cadmium yellow, and then they added color to the objects.
